In recent times, the country has witnessed various movements and political unrest, leading to conflicts and violence. This has resulted in widespread psychological stress, fear, anxiety, uncertainty, and instability among the people. Such situations can especially cause significant mental distress among those who were directly affected or have witnessed these events.
To help individuals recover from this psychological stress and anxiety, as well as to foster a sense of tolerance and peace, Unite Theater for Social Action (UTSA), a voluntary development organization in association with Diakonia, organized a group psychotherapy session focusing on psychosocial well-being at 18 August 2024 in UTSA premises. The session was conducted by Obaidul Islam Munna, a trainer from the Bangladesh Therapeutic Theater Institute, with participation from students, teachers, members of the youth forum, and UTSA staff. Various creative and motivational techniques of expressive psychotherapy were utilized to not only address mental health concerns but also to encourage harmonious coexistence and understanding among participants.
After the session, Mustafa Kamal Jatra, Executive Director of UTSA, emphasized the importance of addressing psychological stress and anxiety resulting from specific situations to prevent them from escalating into severe mental disorders. He highlighted that such sessions play a crucial role in promoting tolerance and peace within the community. Jatra also underscored the need for special care, especially for children, students, and the elderly, during times of unrest. He mentioned that UTSA is willing to assist any educational institution interested in organizing similar sessions for the psychosocial protection and development of their students, aiming to build a more resilient and peaceful society.
