Health and Hygiene Session held with Student Forum

This week, a series of Health and Hygiene sessions were conducted at three different schools: Hazi Abdul Ali City Corporation High School, Ticket Printing Press Colony High School, and Ispahani Model High School. These sessions were organized with the support of Diakonia and conducted under the HEART project by UTSA.

The primary focus of these sessions was on educating adolescents about their health, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Rights. The aim was to provide a platform for students to openly discuss the challenges and changes they are experiencing during adolescence. This facilitated discussions on how to respond effectively to these changes for personal well-being and to offer support to peers facing similar challenges.

A total of 152 boys and girls students participated in these enlightening sessions. The objective was to empower these young individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to make informed decisions regarding their health and hygiene. The sessions were skillfully led by Program Officer Ripa Palit, who was ably assisted by Program Associates Sumon Sarkar, Reshma Akter and Md. Sultan.

UTSA’s HEART project has a broader mission: to empower adolescents and raise community awareness about gender sensitivity, human rights, and mental health. Through diverse project activities, UTSA strives to equip adolescents with the tools they require to make informed choices about their health, overall well-being, and future.

These Health and Hygiene sessions, held within the safe and open atmosphere of the student forum, significantly contribute to building the confidence and knowledge of adolescents. By doing so, they help these young individuals navigate the challenges of adolescence and make well-informed decisions that will contribute to healthier and more empowered lives.
