Many incidents of violence against women in Bangladesh still remain unreported. Fear of exposure, legal complications, and social stigma often prevent survivors from lodging complaints with the authorities. To provide a safe and confidential alternative, the online reporting platform aamarkotha.com has been launched.
On 28 August 2025, UTSA organized an orientation session at the Department of Women Affairs Auditorium in Chattogram to introduce the platform to the community.
Key Highlights from the Event:
- Chief Guest: Ms. Atiya Chowdhury, Deputy Director, Department of Women Affairs, Chattogram, emphasized that technology can empower women to report violence without fear.
- Special Guest: Ms. Jesmin Sultana Paru, women’s rights leader, said that aamarkotha.com is more than a reporting tool — it is a social movement for women’s rights.
- Education Perspective: Mr. Md. Saiful Islam, Head Teacher, Firozshah City Corporation Girls’ High School, highlighted the need to raise awareness among students to use the platform.
- Media Viewpoint: Mr. Faruk Taher, media professional, noted that the platform will bring hidden cases of violence to light and connect survivors with support.
The session was attended by representatives from NGOs, journalists, women’s rights groups, disability organizations, school teachers, and university students. Participants received a live demonstration of the platform and committed to sharing it within their networks.
Through aamarkotha.com, survivors or their acquaintances can confidentially report cases of violence. After verification, the platform ensures necessary legal, referral, and psychosocial support.
This initiative is a joint effort by Dataful, UTSA, Daily Sangbad, and Daily Suprobhat Bangladesh, with financial support from Free Press Unlimited, Article 19, and the European Union.
